Quarter 4 (2020-2021)

Greetings, Capital District Kiwanis Members –

It is hard to believe that on October 1st, our clubs will be celebrating the start of another Kiwanis New Year! The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation continues to work hard to complete another successful year in assisting our communities, clubs, and local pediatric trauma centers. Given the work that has occurred over the last three months, we are pleased to provide you with another quarterly update.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped support our 2021 Ducky Derby raffle! The Foundation was able to raise $12,881.00 for pediatric trauma! We did not only meet our goal but we SURPASSED our goal! Our top three winners were $750.00 Cash Prize — Susan Nancanon / Seaford Kiwanis Club / Division 5, $500.00 Cash Prize — Cory Fore / Next Generation e-Kiwanis Club / Division 4, and the $250.00 Cash Prize — Rachel Jacobs / Severna Park Kiwanis Club / Division 4.

As we prepare to end and celebrate the Kiwanis service year, many clubs will think about celebrating their members and club leaders. We hope that you will consider bestowing upon them one of the many Foundation honors that are available including life memberships, the Patron Recognition, President’s Circle, Tablet of Honor, or Founder’s Society. Details can be found on our recognition and contribution form located at https://k03.site.kiwanis.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/36/2021/01/Recognition-and-Contribution-Form-Updated-11.2020.pdf

While we are preparing to close out this service year, we are looking forward to 2021-2022. As your club’s Board of Directors continues to plan for a successful year of service in your local community, the Foundation encourages you to apply for a grant. The application cycle is open two times per year and applications are due on September 15th (fall cycle) or March 15th (spring cycle). To read the guidelines and complete an online application form, please visit https://k03.site.kiwanis.org/foundation-grants/

Have you liked us on Facebook yet? We encourage you to like our page and tune into our new Facebook Live series that will air for the first time on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:00 p.m. For our first episode, join incoming President, Ed Daley to hear about his 2021-2023 goals for the Foundation. The Facebook Live series will air every Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and will be centered on a different aspect of the Foundation, the board, and the District each week.

Donate today to help our children! Become an inaugural supporter of the Foundation’s sustained giving program which is new for 2021-2022! Sustained giving is a way for Kiwanians committed to serving children to have a district-wide impact. In exchange for the cost of a cup of coffee at Starbucks or a fast-food drive-through restaurant combo or a dinner out each month, sustainers provide a steady stream of income for the foundation. If you don’t already personally contribute annually to the foundation’s work serving children, now is the time to show your commitment. $5, $10, $20, or whatever you can afford regularly adds up to more services for children—scholarships, pediatric trauma support, meals for the needy, books, club grants, and more. Committing is easy! Follow this link to make a one-time or reoccurring donation: https://crm.bloomerang.co/HostedDonation?ApiKey=pub_c681dd58-b980-11eb-ab84-0253c981a9f9&WidgetId=164864

As we conclude the 2020-2021 service year and look to the next, please let the Foundation Board of Directors know how we can best serve your clubs, as well as educate our fellow members. The entire board looks forward to a wonderful 2021-2022 continuing to serve our clubs, district, and world!

Quarter 2 Update (2020-2021)

Greetings, Capital District Kiwanis Members –

The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation hopes each of you, as well as your families, are staying healthy! The entire Foundation board looks forward to when we can gather in-person with fellow Kiwanis members at conventions and divisional council meetings.

The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation continues to work hard to execute another successful year in assisting our communities, clubs, and local pediatric trauma centers. Given the work that has occurred over the last three months, we are pleased to provide you with another quarterly update.

Thank you to the 50 Kiwanis Clubs who have provided an annual gift for the 2020-2021 Kiwanis year! Your support of the Foundation and our commitment to the pediatric trauma centers is certainly recognized! The Foundation board would especially like to congratulate Division 1 who is the first in the Capital District to reach 100% participation in annual gifts! We look forward to shouting out other divisions in the future, as many are close! Please remember that $5 per member is a criteria point to earn distinguished club for 2020-2021.

Help us make a splash of cash for pediatric trauma! It is time again for the Ducky Derby! The Ducky Derby Chairman, Mr. Charles Marks, has set a goal of raising $11,500 this year. We did it last year and we can do it again! The drawing will take place at the conclusion of the House of Delegates on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Capital District Kiwanis Convention. Cash prizes of $750, $500, and $250, as well as various gift cards, will be awarded. You do not need to be present to win, but you do need to have a ticket in the drum! Tickets will continue to be sold throughout the spring and summer.

NEW THIS YEAR! The Foundation is offering an opportunity for all individuals to purchase Ducky Derby tickets and pay online through the District’s website. Individuals will be able to pay with a credit card and the Foundation will complete your tickets for you. If you would like to use the online payment option to purchase Ducky Derby tickets, please access: https://k03.site.kiwanis.org/ducky-derby-raffle/

Tickets can also be downloaded and printed at home by accessing: https://tinyurl.com/2021DuckyDerby

As a reminder, the Foundation is now a participant in the Amazon Smiles Program and would love your support as you online shop during this social distancing period! You can shop on Amazon for all of your needs and 0.5% of your total will be donated back to the Foundation. We appreciate any and all support that you are able to provide!

Quarter 4 Update (2019-2020)

Greetings, Capital District Kiwanis Members –

It is hard to believe that on October 1st, our clubs will be celebrating the start of another Kiwanis New Year! Before we embark on a new service year, the Foundation President, Mr. Mike Dasovich, would like to express his appreciation to each club and Kiwanis member.

“My fellow Kiwanians of the Capital District, we joined Kiwanis for various reasons.  In the end, we come together to lend a helping hand to “Serve the Children of the World.”  I would like to personally thank you for all that you have done supporting the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation (CDKF) during this extremely difficult second half of our 2019-2020 year.  The COVID-19 pandemic forced our Kiwanis members/clubs into difficult financial times.  Through your generosity, the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation is able to continue to assist people in need, particularly young people; to assist worthy youth in attaining vocational excellence; and to aid people with disabilities in carrying out happy, useful lives.

From April 2015 through July 2020 your generous donations of $87,431.95 supported numerous clubs through the Foundation’s grant program, stretching across the Capital District.   This Kiwanis year, 2019-2020, the Foundation provided $25,000.00 in grants to clubs.

Your club donations provided $9,321.00 from 79 Capital District clubs and once again, I say, “Thank You” for reaching down deep into your pockets in supporting the Foundation’s “Ducky Derby” with ticket sales netting well over $10,000.00 which will assist our continued support of the nine Pediatric Hospitals and Centers.

I am truly humbled by your generosity and promise that as Capital District Kiwanis Foundation President, along with my phenomenal Board of Directors, we will push the limits of the Foundation to do all that we can to support the children of the Capital District given the uncertainty the future holds for all of us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Quarter 2 Update (2019-2020)

Greetings, Capital District Kiwanis Members –

The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation hopes each of you, as well as your families, are staying safe and healthy amid the circumstances that face our world at this moment in time.

The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation continues to work hard to execute another successful year in assisting our communities, clubs, and local pediatric trauma centers. Given the work that has occurred over the last three months, we are pleased to provide you with another quarterly update.

At the February meeting of the Foundation, we were pleased to vote on three grant applications that were submitted during our fall process. The Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg was awarded $5,000 towards their Kids Imagination Studio; the Kiwanis Club of Blacksburg, VA was awarded $800 for their music program; and the Kiwanis Club of Waynesboro was awarded $5,000 for their literacy program. Each of these clubs will be featured on our Facebook page as their projects evolve. The Foundation will consider all grant requests that were submitted by March 15th at the May meeting. If your club is looking for financial assistance, please check out how you can receive a grant from the Foundation by reading our website at https://k03.site.kiwanis.org/foundation-grants/

Help us make a splash of cash for pediatric trauma! It is time again for the Ducky Derby! The Ducky Derby Chairman, Mr. Charles Marks, has set a goal of raising $11,500 this year. If you are in need of tickets, please contact your division’s foundation director or contact Ducky Derby Chair, Charles Marks at [email protected].

The Ducky Derby has seen many changes over the last six years; however, we cannot continue to provide support to the local pediatric trauma centers associated with the Capital District without your help! The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation Board of Directors would like your input to continue making positive changes to the Ducky Derby! Please participate in a survey located at https://k03.site.kiwanis.org/ducky-derby-raffle-survey/ to provide your opinions and ideas! All responses are due by June 1, 2020.

As a reminder, the Foundation is now a participant in the Amazon Smiles Program and would love your support as you online shop during this social distancing period! Quarter 1 Update (2019-2020)

Greetings, Capital District Kiwanis members –

The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation is hard at work ensuring that we have another successful year assisting our communities, clubs, and local pediatric trauma hospitals. Our work would not be possible without the generous support of you and your clubs. We thank you!

This year, the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation aims to strengthen its publicity and marketing approach to create a more cohesive and streamlined appearance. This will be achieved by working towards the following three goals:

  1. To increase each Kiwanis member’s understanding of the Foundation, its directors and officer team, and its supported projects.
  2. To develop an interest from members and citizens in donating to the Foundation’s projects and causes
  3. To communicate upcoming event dates and deadlines to Kiwanis members and clubs

Therefore, as we aim to increase each Kiwanis member’s understanding of the Foundation, we will be sending one message per quarter to you, detailing the most important up-and-coming efforts of the Board.

As we find ourselves amid the season for gratitude and giving, your divisional Directors encourage you to assist the Foundation on #GivingTuesday. Giving Tuesday is held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and encourages citizens to give back to non-profit organizations. This year, the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation is fundraising to support our nine pediatric trauma centers throughout Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Washington, DC. Facebook is again matching donations starting at 8:00 a.m. (EST). Mark your calendar and help us reach our $2,000 goal! Any gift of any size makes a difference.

If you recently made a donation to the Foundation, we invite you to send us a video sharing the personal reasons why you gave back philanthropically. We will be posting these donor stories on our Facebook page to promote #GivingTuesday. Every act of giving has a story. What’s yours? Please send your recorded story to the Foundation at: [email protected]
